Svayam Sankalp Tap - Privacy Policy
Last updated 13 October 2026
This policy covers Svayam Sankalp Tap, the mantra and practice counter for Android phones and Wear OS watches. Svayam Sankalp Tap is a product of BNS Data, Sydney, Australia, which is responsible for the information described here. Questions, or requests about your data, go to privacy@svayam.yoga.
The short version
- Your sankalps and counts are yours. There are no ads, no third-party analytics and no public sharing.
- We keep only what is needed to sync your counts between your phones and your watch.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from the app, at any time.
What we store
Your account
Your email address, and a name if you give one. The email is stored encrypted. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash that we cannot turn back into the password.
Your sankalps and practice
What you enter for each sankalp - its name, the mantra and transliteration if you add them, notes, targets, dates, schedule and reminder times - and each sitting you count: the date, the start and end time and the number of taps. These are kept on our server so a second phone, a reinstall or a new phone shows the same counts.
How you count
From version 1.3, each sitting also records a short summary of how it was counted: where you tapped from (the counter, the lock screen, the notification, the widget or the watch), whether the screen was dimmed, how many taps were undone, the steady pace between taps, and how long each mala took. It does not record the time of each separate tap. We use this to see which parts of the app people rely on and to improve them, and we look at it only as totals across everyone, never person by person. It may later be shown back to you as your own practice patterns.
Your purchase
If you buy the unlock, Google Play handles the payment. We receive the Play order number, the purchase time and a purchase token, and ask Google to confirm the purchase so it unlocks on every device you sign into. We never see your card or other payment details.
Your devices
Each phone gets a random identifier when the app is first installed, plus a label such as the phone model, so that counts from two phones are added up rather than overwriting each other. We do not read your phone's hardware identifiers, location, contacts, microphone or camera.
Your watch
The watch app does not connect to our server. It receives today's sankalps from your phone and sends its counts back to your phone, which syncs them.
Sankalps from other Svayam apps
If you take a sankalp in Svayam Yoga or Svayam Bhavishya - for example a festival japa from the Panchang - that app sends us your email, your name and the sankalp, and your progress is shown back to you in that app. It only does this when you ask it to, after confirming your email address.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no advertising or analytics libraries in the apps.
- No selling or renting of your information to anyone.
- No public profiles, feeds or sharing.
Who processes it for us
- Supabase - the database where your account and sankalps are stored.
- Render - hosts the server the apps talk to.
- Resend - sends the sign-in codes and account emails.
- Google - Play delivers the app, and Wear OS carries data between your phone and watch.
They act on our instructions and only for these purposes. All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted (HTTPS).
Notifications
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. If you turn notifications off, the counter still works.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have the account. A sankalp you delete in the app is removed from your list and from sync. Deleting your account removes everything listed above.
Deleting your account
In the app, open the menu on the home screen and choose Delete account. It takes effect immediately. If you no longer have the app, see how to delete your account.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing privacy@svayam.yoga. If you are not satisfied with our answer you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
Svayam Sankalp Tap is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
